The Bonte Museum, located on Jeju Island, is renowned for being designed by Tadao Ando, an internationally respected architect. The architectural design of the museum itself is a solid entertainment, while Tadao Ando’s stories and hidden in between the exhibition halls. The Bonte Museum is composed of five halls, offering charming pieces from traditional Korean crafts to modern art pieces from global artists. The first exhibition hall displays traditional everyday crafts that Korean ancestors used including traditional attire, bojagi pillows, wooden furniture, and small-tray tables. The second displays the work of global art giants, including those of Nam June Paik, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Yayoi Kusama, and Dali. The third hall of the museum, which is also its highlight, is home to two large art pieces of Yayoi Kusama. This includes the ‘Pumpkin,’ one of Kusama’s most famous works, and the ‘Infinity Mirror Room - Gleaming Lights of Souls,’ which is an experiential exhibition composed of surrounding mirrors and a hundred LED bulbs in the dark. Meanwhile, the fourth hall displays the Korean traditional funeral culture and the fifth hosts seasonal exhibitions. As the Bonte Museum offers a handful of architectural and artistic value, even an entire day may not be enough for you to truly enjoy the destination.
