Japan's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation is the country's most prominent science museum that was established in 2002. The director of the museum is Mamoru Mohri, Japan's first astronaut, and it was established in order to connect humans to the newly arising scientific knowledge of the 21st century. The national museum is located on the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo Bay, and is sometimes referred to as 'Miraikan' by the local Japanese.
